Our childhood living on the Gold Coast was usually full of sensational memories, very few worries and woes. It was all about having fun in the sun, running around and occasionally when we did that we might be unlucky enough to have a small injury, usually made all good by a “Kiss it better: a statement and a band aid from Mum”.

Scrapes or bruises were all part of growing up and occasionally? We might even lose a tooth.

But losing a tooth when we were kids was not as bad as it appeared, as when the tears stopped? A sense of excitement would start, yes, the revenue generating “Tooth Fairy” was booked for an appearance.
Yes, Mum or Dad would say, “let’s put that tooth under the pillow” and when you wake up there will be a surprise, a candy or a coin or whatever it is that they think will make you show your toothy grin. Now I don’t know how much inflation has taken over but back in my day there would usually be a shiny 50 cent piece taking the place of the tooth and I would run to the nearest shop to spend it on sugary things that would end up helping the future teeth fall out by themselves.

Sadly, if we fast forward and are passed the two sets of natural teeth we get along the way, the tooth fairy has retired and there are no funds taking the place of a missing tooth, worse still there is no new tooth going to make an appearance.
